Our Story
The Social London Orchestra is a community orchestra and registered charity that aims to make classical music more accessible by putting on free concerts to audiences in and around London in non-traditional venues.
Founded in 2021, SLO was born from a vision: an orchestra where musicians connect socially, exploring a wide range of classical styles, and performing in venues beyond the traditional concert hall to help demystify classic music.
A simple survey asking whether London needed such an orchestra sparked an overwhelming response from over 100 musicians. From this momentum, a dedicated founding team was formed, led by Meerav Shah and Aisling Heneghan, alongside a committee of six others who established SLO for years of remarkable success to follow.
Guided by Musical Director and Conductor Hugo Jennings, SLO officially launched in May 2022. In January 2025, we became a registered charity—marking the start of an exciting new chapter in our mission to share the joy of music with everyone.
Over the last 4 years, we have performed at a diverse range of venues including The Clapham Grand and the V&A South Kensington, covering Indian Classical Music, Western Classical Music, Folk Music and Classical Fusion styles.
